IS THE CHURCH STILL RELEVANT TODAY?

“When It Satisfies the Hungry”

Pastor Duane Cross | 11.06.2011

“Blessed are thos who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.” Matthew 5:6 (NIV)

I. What does it mean to be desperately hungry?

II. What is it that we hunger for?

“They pant after the dust of the earth.” Amos 2:7 (NIV)

“The days are coming,” declares the Sovereign LORD, “when I will send a famine through the land—not a famine of food or a thirst for water, but a famine of hearing the words of the LORD.” Amos 8:11 (NIV)

“...what is not bread” Isaiah 55:2 (NIV)

“Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” John 4:13-14 (NIV)

"You're blessed when you've worked up a good appetite for God. He's food and drink in the best meal you'll ever eat. Matthew 5:6 (The Message)

III. Where does this hunger come from?

“Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labor on what does not satisfy? Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good, and you will delight in the richest of fare.” Isaiah 55:2 (NIV)

“I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of his resurrection...” Philippians 3:10(NIV)
