JESUS + NOTHING=EVERYTHING

“Only Shadows”

Pastor Duane Cross | 03.04.2012

“Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day. These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ. Do not let anyone who delights in false humility and the worship of angels disqualify you for the prize. Such a person goes into great detail about what he has seen, and his unspiritual mind puffs him up with idle notions. He has lost connection with the head, from whom the whole body, supported and held together by its ligaments and sinews, grows as God causes it to grow.” Colossians 2:16-19(NIV)

“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.” (Galatians 5:1)

SHADOW = false religion, legalism and works righteousness or performancism.

REALITY = Jesus his Grace and his salvation.

“The Sabbath was made to meet the needs of the people, and not people to meet the requirements of the Sabbath.” Mark 2:27(NLT)

“Oh, foolish Galatians! Who has cast an evil spell on you? For the meaning of Jesus Christ’s death was made as clear to you as if you had seen a picture of his death on the cross. Let me ask you this one question: Did you receive the Holy Spirit by obeying the law of Moses? Of course not! You received the Spirit because you believed the message you heard about Christ. How foolish can you be? After starting your Christian lives in the Spirit, why are you now trying to become perfect by your own human effort?” Galatians 3:1-3(NLT)

LEGALISTS DO 3 THINGS:

1) Twist the truth to conform to their rigid doctrine.

2) Legalists look for petty do’s and don’ts.

3) Legalism kills grace by hypocrisy.

“And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” (Colossians 3:17)
