Matthew's Crossing Food Bank

Our Mission

Uniting our community in the fight against hunger by providing food and basic necessities to our neighbors in need. COMPASSION • DIGNITY • HOPE

Matthew's Crossing is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) charitable organization. We provide assistance for individuals and families in need in the East Valley area - currently addressing needs associated with hunger.

Under the Arizona Charitable Tax Credit, also known as the Working Poor Tax Credit, households have the opportunity to reduce their direct tax liability up to $400 when they give back to qualifying non-profits in the community. When you make a charitable contribution to Matthew’s Crossing, a working poor charitable organization, you may be eligible to receive dollar-for-dollar tax credits in the amount of your contribution (up to $200 for single people and $400 for married couples).

Our History

In 2001, Saint Matthew's Episcopal Church recognized a need within the community. That need was food for the hungry families. With the help of 3 volunteers, Saint Matthew's Food Bank was established. In 2005, the church determined that the food bank had grown to a capacity that it needed to be independent from the church.

Matthew's Crossing was formed and became a 501(c)(3) community based non-profit organization serving the working poor. From its humble beginnings of serving 800 people in its first year, Matthew's Crossing Food Bank currently serves over 46,000 people in need each year, with the help and dedication of over 50 volunteers working to fulfill its mission.

Our Future Plans

Roll Out the KIDZ CAFÉ
In the US, 1 in 5 children will go hungry each night. The KIDZ CAFÉ will help to ensure that children in the East Valley will have a safe and fun experience visiting our KIDZ CAFÉ Bus after school and receive a nutritious snack or meal along with tutoring assistance utilizing our computers. Our goal is to raise $30K for food for children during the first year our KIDZ CAFÉ is in operation.

Mobile Food Bank
To better serve those physically impaired who cannot make it to Matthew’s Food Bank for food, we will be sending out our 24' refrigerated truck to bring food security to our neighbors in need. Our goal is to raise an additional $50K for food boxes this year for the Mobile Food Bank.
