When Science Trumps Faith:
WHEN SCIENCE TRUMPS FAITH:
Over the past few days I have been trying to keep tabs on the story of Brittany Maynard. Many are aware that this 29-year-old woman with brain cancer said she would end her life through physician-assisted suicide on November 1. Sadly she did.
Conversely, my wife, Laura and I returned home from a routine checkup this morning. Laura now 3 days past her “due date” is determined to wait patiently and deliver our baby naturally. To be honest, it seems really strange to me that some of our Christian friends seem more concerned about our decision to NOT be induced, than on our decision TO trust the timing of God who spoke things into existence.
What is it about conversations regarding procreation – the life of a new baby and death – our exit from the physical world around us, that makes tempers flare?
Grasping for control of our own destinies?
Being afraid of the unknown?
Feeling a sense of insignificance in this massive universe (while feeling the world should revolve around us)?
Lack of faith in a sovereign God?
How would our decisions change, both big and small, if we lived with the conviction that WE ARE NOT OUR OWN?
To God Be the Glory,
Ryan
Below is an excellent article by John Piper about living with the recognition that we are not our own. We have been bought with a price! http://www.desiringgod.org/blog/posts/we-are-not-our-own-on-god-brittany-maynard-and-physician-assisted-suicide
